A reading is Ardora's field-note on one model — its Silhouette (how it tends to behave, drawn as a shape), its Build Story (what a finetune changed off its champion), and, held to the same light, everything it could not clearly see. Every finding carries a replayable witness. Nothing is named that could not be shown.

how a reading speaks
A reading is proof, not an assertion — every finding ships a replayable witness — and it is coarse on purpose, in a small fixed vocabulary. Where it could not see clearly, it leaves an honest blank, published as loudly as the reading.
the witness — a record you can re-run
Point the witness at the model and the same characterization appears — the same shape, twice, in the same light. That is the whole of what a witness claims: the reading reproduces. It shows that the shape is really there — never how the heron saw it.
the honest blank — name the true shape, or name nothing
Where Ardora cannot see a trait clearly, it does not guess. It marks the blank — visibly, with a reason. Every entry in the atlas is a shape the heron actually saw; an entry with no blanks is not a triumph, it is a warning.
A read that names everything has almost certainly named a shadow — the 2 blanks on the worked read above are the discipline, not a shortfall.
